As a follow up to our Parish Mission in 2001, "Outreach beyond our Parish
Community:"
The Oblates of Mary Immaculate (which Father John Lee is a member) have
priests working in the communities within the shantytowns around Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil. The communities are very large and there is typically one priest
for around 60,000 people.
Father John is working in the heart of this community and is supported by
Deacons and Lay people in spreading the word of God.
We as a parish community already help the oblates through the Blue Boxes,
which we collect money for Father Dillon once a year.
To supplement these efforts we are collecting coins and notes from around the
world. So if you have any leftover currencies from your vacation it will
be put to good use. Just put it in the box at the back of the church in a
bag with a note saying what currency it is and how much it is for. So far
we have collected over £400.
Father Dillon has agreed to "Count" the blue box monies to help to contribute
towards some of the great work which is being done in the communities.
For more information please contact
Father John Lee.
