The Parish Council, originally built a school (circa 1860) behind the old
church, this was replaced by a new school building, on a spacious site in
Somerford in 1962. It comprises eight classrooms, one of which is brand
new and was completed last year. A new Library/Resource Centre which
caters for the 4+ to 11 age range was built 5 years ago. It serves the
catholic parishes of Christchurch, Highcliffe and New Milton.
The school's mission statement summarises its aim and purposes:
"...To provide a catholic Christian education based on the life and
teaching of Jesus Christ..."
It is very popular and has an excellent reputation in the locality. In
1997 OFSTED inspections described is as a , "well ordered and caring
Christian community," adding, "the positive Christian ethos is
fundamental to every aspect of school life and is a real strength of the
school."
The school is a voluntarily aided establishment for boys and girls aged 5-11
years; an average roll of 220. Governors and teachers have agreed a
mission statement which summarises the nature, aims and purposes of the school.
The school is committed to parental and parish involvement. We
always welcome volunteers for reading support and other activities. If
interested, please phone/e-mail the headteacher Mr Peter Thompson.
